Chilli chicken is an extremely popular Indian Chinese dish where boneless chicken is marinated, fried and sauteed in a spicy and tangy sauce ... best served with fried rice or noodles. It's a big hit in most of the parties and is available in both dry and gravy form in any Chinese restaurants in India. Dry version of chilli chicken is a popular party starter.
This easy-to-make chicken recipe is a perfect go-to recipe for desi-Chinese lovers.If you want to make it more colorful add some bell peppers to this chicken recipe. Ingredients :
800-900 gms boneless chicken
few spring onion greens and slited green chilli for garnishing
oil for frying
For marination :
2 tsp gingergarlic paste
1 tblsp cornflour
2 tblsp refined flour/ maida
1 tsp pepper powder
1 tsp red chilli sauce
1 tsp soya sauce
1 tsp vinegar
1 egg
salt to taste
For Gravy :
3 onions diced into squares
2 capsicum diced into squares
5-6 garlic flakes crushed/ minced
6-7 Green chillies slited lengthwise
5 tblsp green chilli sauce
5 tblsp tomato sauce
2 tblsp soya sauce
1 tblsp green chilli soaked vinegar
2 tblsp cornflour diluted in half a cup of water
salt to taste
Method :
1. Clean and cut the chicken and marinade them with the ingredients and set aside for 20-30 minutes.
2. Heat oil and deep fry the chicken pieces until golden brown. Fry in small batches and drain on kitchen tissue and keep aside.
3. Meanwhile heat 2 tblsp oil in a wok, add the diced onions, diced capsicum & green chillies and stir fry over high heat until they are soft & translucent.
4. In a bowl mix all the sauces and vinegar... add it to the sauted vegetables and mix well over medium flame.
5. Now add the diluted cornflour mix into the gravy. Add salt as per your taste. Adjust the water according to your requirement of gravy.
6. Let the gravy come to a boil then add the fried chicken pieces and mix it well ... so that the chicken pieces are well coated in the sauce. Cook for more 3-4 minutes and then switch off the flame.
7. Garnish with spring onion greens and slit green chilli.
8. Serve hot with fried rice or noodles.
